Independent Support (IS) Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland offers free, impartial, confidential information, advice and support to parents and carers of young people aged 0-25 going through the new Education Health and Care Plan process as well as young people themselves.

IS Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland is made up of several organisations. Together, these groups give you up to twenty weeks of support focused on the Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) process.   

 Who IS Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland supports

IS Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland provides information and advice for:

  • Parents and carers of children and young people with SEND aged 0–25 in Leicester City, Leicestershire and Rutland who are going through the new EHCP process
  • Young people aged 16-25 in Leicester City, Leicestershire and Rutland with SEND who are going through the new EHCP process

What IS Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland does

IS Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland offers advice and information on:

  • All matters relating to the new EHCP process, including EHCP Assessments
  • Moving from a Learning Disability Assessment or a Statement of Special Educational Needs (SEN) to a new EHCP

IS Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland can also help by:

  • Providing up to 20 weeks of support to take you through the EHCP process
  • Helping you understand the services available for children and young people and putting you in touch with them
  • Acting as a named person to support you through the EHCP assessment, planning and conversion process.
